Whole house water carbon purifier for point of entry or garage before heater to ensure purified water free of chemicals, bacteria chlorine and odors . Filter you are getting 99.5 % pure water for the whole house. Brackets and screws are used to mount the system inline on the water supply to the house. Adapters can be used to fit pipe sizing . Water goes thru the prefilter first . Prefilters to remove sediment for flood or drought situations can be changed according to need every few months. Your plumber should use a shut off valve before and after the filters. Founded in 1984, KDF Fluid Treatment, Inc. is a technological leader in the fluid treatment industry. KDF(r) process media are high-purity copper-zinc formulations used in pretreatment, primary treatment, and wastewater applications. KDF media supplement or replace existing technologies to dramatically extend system life, reduce heavy metals, microorganisms, scale, lower total cost, and decrease maintenance. Patented KDF process media are 100 percent recyclable and contain no chemical additives. Hospitals, restaurants, municipal water treatment facilities, and homes rely on KDF process media to safely reduce remove chlorine, iron, hydrogen sulfide, heavy metals, and bacteria from their water.
kdf media remove up to 98% of water-soluble cations (positively-charged ions) of lead, mercury, copper, nickel, chromium, and other dissolved metals. When filtered through KDF(r) media, soluble lead cations are reduced to insoluble lead atoms, which are electroplated onto the surface of the media. Other heavy metals bond to the media and may be recovered when the exhausted media pass through a copper smelter. * New Jersey's Department of Environmental Protection and Energy uses KDF 55 redox alloy medium in point-of-entry treatment systems (POET) to remove mercury in residential applications. KDF media consistently reduce mercury from initial concentrations of 13 ppb through 24 ppb (parts per billion) to concentration levels below 0.5 ppb. A typical metal redox reaction with KDF process media: A typical metal redox reaction with KDF process media. Zinc loses 2 electrons (oxidation). Lead gains 2 electrons (reduction). Lead plates on copper and replaces zinc which goes into solution as ions. KDF(r) Process Media Control Microorganism Growth KDF(r) media are incorporated into carbon blocks and other matrices for bacteria control and scale reduction. The oxidation/reduction potential (ORP) shift by a factor of -300mV or more for water filtered through redox media controls microorganism growth. Treating water reduces bacteria and other microorganisms by disrupting electron transport, causing cellular damage. KDF process media also kill bacteria by direct electrochemical contact and by the flash formation of hydroxyl radicals and hydrogen peroxide, both of which interfere with a microorganism's ability to function. * A major plastic injection molder uses KDF media to treat cooling water for a 60,000 sq. foot plant. Mineral hardness scale is virtually eliminated at about 25 percent of the cost of chemicals, and none of the heat exchangers have been replaced. With chemical treatments, scale continues to form in the cooling towers, causing damage to the heat exchangers, which often results in expensive repairs. KDF redox alloy media provides an effective, less costly alternative to chemical treatments. How many KDF(r) Process Media are available? KDF Fluid Treatment, Inc. manufactures two product lines of its distinctive, high-purity, granulated media: KDF(r) 55 Process Medium and KDF(r) 85 Process Medium, each with its own KDF(r)-F (Fines) version. * KDF 55 Medium was designed specifically for removing or reducing chlorine and water-soluble heavy metals. It controls scale, bacteria and algae, even in hot water. KDF 55 and KDF 85 Process Media can remove up to 99% of water-soluble lead, mercury, nickel, chromium, and other dissolved metals. All KDF Process Media forms are effective in controlling the buildup of bacteria, algae, fungi and scale, making them ideal for use in GAC beds, ion exchange resins, carbon block filters and inline carbon filters. Wherever our Media are used, they can eliminate the need for costly, and sometimes harmful, chemical treatments. Do KDF Process Media offer any other advantages? In a word, "Yes." All KDF Process Media are guaranteed for product purity. A certified analytical sheet accompanies each manufacturing run. Patented KDF Process Media are 100% recyclable and contain no chemical additives. Our Medium is classified as a "pesticidal device" by the US Environmental Protection Agency so no pesticidal registration is required. Our Media also meet EPA and Food and Drug Administration standards for maximum limits of zinc and copper in potable water.

Cryptosporidium is an infectious parasite that survives in chlorinated water meeting U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) water quality standards. Chlorine, although used extensively for water treatment, cannot kill some microorganisms, including Cryposporidium and Giardia. Cryptosporidium is a protozoan and an intracellular parasite that infects a variety of animals including humans. It is a round cyst 4 to 6 microns in diameter that was first recognized as a cause of human illness in 1976. Infection can occur from drinking contaminated water, eating contaminated food, exposure to fecal contaminated surfaces and from person to person exposure via the fecal-oral route when hands are not properly washed. Person to person infection is well documented in places like day-care centers and hospitals. There are also many routes for waterborne transmission. All surface water may harbor Cryptosporidium contamination. O o cysts have been found in lakes, rivers, ground water is also possible; in one survey, as many as 20 percent of test wells contained the cyst. Symptoms of cryptosporidiosis include diarrhea, abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting and low-grade fever. The illness typically lasts 10 to 14 days, but can last up to 30. There is no cure and recovery depends on the patient's immune system. Certain treatments reduce the severity of some of the symptoms, but the disease can be fatal for people with certain health conditions. In severe cases it develops into a prolonged, life-threatening, cholera-like illness. People with weak immune systems are most vulnerable. Cryptosporidium cysts resist chlorinating and the use of chlorine dioxide. cyst viability wasn't affected by exposure to even 30,000 parts per million (ppm) chlorine as sodium hypochlorite for up to 18 hours. It takes sodium hypo chlorite at higher than 700,000 ppm concentrations to eliminate the cyst. These doses cannot be used in practical applications. Effective treatment methods include ozone, ultra-violet and physical filtering by a fine enough, uniform and bypass-resistant filtering device. There is some evidence that the cyst can range down in size to 2.5 microns. This and the flexibility of the cyst when it is subjected to filtering forces, indicate the need to select a quality filter. check left library for additional options |
